¿Qué son las auditorías energéticas obligatorias para empresas?

Las auditorías energéticas obligatorias para empresas son evaluaciones técnicas del consumo energético de una organización que permiten conocer cómo se usa la energía, detectar ineficiencias y proponer medidas de mejora. En determinados casos, además de ser una herramienta de ahorro y optimización, constituyen una obligación legal para ciertas empresas según la normativa vigente.

Su objetivo no es solo revisar consumos, sino analizar instalaciones, procesos y patrones energéticos para identificar oportunidades reales de eficiencia y cumplir con los requisitos regulatorios aplicables.

According to RD 56/2016 an energy audit is any systematic procedure intended to obtain adequate knowledge regarding the own consumption profile of a building, group of buildings, commercial, industrial or public or private service facility. Also, it allows to determine and quantify the possibilities of energy savings and generate reports in this regard.

• Optimize the use of fuels and electric energy.

When to perform an energy audit?

Royal Decree 56 of 2016 establishes the cases in which energy efficiency audits are mandatory. These are:

• Any company whose payroll includes more than 250 workers. 250 employees.
• Those companies with less than 250 employees, but with a turnover of more than turnover of more than 50 million euros.
• All companies that achieve a balance sheet balance sheet in excess of 43 million million euros.

However, it is also possible to register audits on a voluntary basis, whenever companies or buildings are interested in knowing the current state of their energy consumption and, above all, in projecting changes to it. 

Requirements for an energy audit

Royal Decree 56/2016 establishes the following requirements, of mandatory nature, for any energy audit.

• They must be based on energy or electricity consumption data, duly updated, measured and verifiable.
• They should include a detailed examination of the energy consumption profile corresponding to the type of installation and, if necessary, include transportation within the installation.
• Cost-effectiveness criteria should be prioritized in the analysis of life-cycle costs, and not only in amortization periods. 
• They must be proportionate and project a reliable picture of overall energy performance so that improvement opportunities can have a real impact. 
• They must be carried out by qualified and accredited energy auditors, in accordance with current regulations.
