Results of REE's Active Demand Response Service (SRAD) for the first half of 2026: what it is, how it works and the role demand now plays.
The results of the Active Demand Response Service (SRAD) for the first half of 2026 have been published. At GRUPO TRÉBOL ENERGÍA we consider this auction particularly significant: it confirms demand as an essential resource for the security and efficiency of the power system.
What the SRAD is
The SRAD is a service through which electro-intensive consumers — industry and other large users among them — make their ability to cut electricity consumption available to the system, on request, whenever Red Eléctrica de España (REE) needs it to keep the grid stable. It is a strategic mechanism: it helps integrate renewables, reduces the need to bring backup generation online and improves how demand peaks are managed.
Headline results published by REE
For the period analysed, the official figures show:
- A marginal price of €65/MW, appreciably higher than in previous auctions.
- Total allocated capacity of 1,725 MW.
- 2,279 hours during which the service may be called upon.
These results point to growing interest and stronger competition within the service, while confirming flexibility as a resource with tangible economic value.
Opening up to smaller capacities: a structural change
One of the most significant developments in this auction is the inclusion of participants with capacities below 1 MW. That opening lets sectors previously shut out access this flexibility market, widening the pool of resources available to the system and democratising participation.
New entrants do more than diversify supply: they drive a more competitive, more modern ecosystem, in line with European guidance on active demand response.
What it means for our clients
For companies able to adjust consumption without affecting output, the SRAD is a double opportunity:
- Contributing directly to the stability of the power system.
- Earning steady additional income from a resource that, in many cases, is already part of normal operations.
At GRUPO TRÉBOL ENERGÍA we continue working to bring manageable demand into these services, promoting an energy system that is more flexible, more efficient and better prepared for what comes next. The energy transition is not built from generation alone: informed, participating demand is already a pillar of it.
